Clissold House

Clissold House is a Grade II* listed building in the middle of Clissold Park that hosts weddings, meetings and parties.

Café

The café is open to the public seven days a week (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) from 8.30am-4pm. It’s operated by Company of Cooks.

New buggy park at Clissold House

If you’re attending classes at Clissold House with prams or pushchairs, please use our new buggy park – in the rose garden next to the house – where you can lock them up, so we can:

  • make the house safer and more accessible
  • protect the grade II listed building, (which has only got one small lift and some very narrow corridors) from damage from the large number of buggies
  • use the former dining room as a quiet room, or for extra seating when the cafe’s full

If you’re using the ground floor toilets or visiting the cafe you’ll still be able to bring your buggy into the house.

Animals

One of the most popular features of Clissold Park is the collection of animals, including the aviary, goats and small herd of fallow deer.

Deer management

Deer have lived in the park since 1890, just one year after the Park was opened. Fallow deer typically live for around 10-12 years. We have a non-breeding herd, which means that there are no natural replacements for elderly deer. In November 2016 some of the older deer were selected for relocation to a private deer park in Devon, about four times the size of the Clissold Park deer paddock.

Before they were removed, seven young deer were introduced to the Clissold Park herd as replacements.
