Community grants

Also in this section

We help local voluntary or community organisations provide projects for Hackney residents – such as youth activity schemes, health advice, employment advice and safety improvements – through our grants programme.

2019/20 grants programme

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our A Place for Everyone – Hackney VCS grants programme 2020/21. For details of next year’s grants programme, see our Hackney VCS grants prospectus 2020/21 which provides information on the types of grants available, the eligibility criteria and how to apply.

For details of this year’s programme see our Hackney VCS grants prospectus 2019/20.

Apply for a Main Grant (including holiday play schemes)

Voluntary and community sector organisations are once again invited to apply for one or two year main grant funding for grants that will run from April 2020 until March 2021 or 2022. Applications can be made for grants between £5,000 – £30,000 for a 1 year grant or up to £60,000 for a 2 year grant, for initiatives that will:

  • promote social inclusion, encourage independence and develop personal resilience
  • build positive relations between different groups and communities that will maintain the high levels of community cohesion in Hackney

Applications are now closed.

Small grants

This year voluntary and community sector organisations can apply for small grants between £1,000 and 5,000 for projects that contribute to one or both of our grants programme’s two priorities:

  • promote social inclusion, encourage independence and develop personal resilience
  • build positive relations between different groups and communities that will maintain the high levels of community cohesion in Hackney

This year LHC has made a contribution towards our small grants budget 2020/21. For this round of small grants we’re delighted to have a contribution from LHC’s Community Benefit Fund. This contribution means we will be able to fund between one and three additional projects.

LHC is a not-for-profit procurement consortium with Hackney Council as a member – any surplus from their activity is ploughed back into community projects. LHC and Hackney Council are working with Locality, the national network supporting community organisations to thrive, in order to distribute the funds: LHC grant.

Applications for the first round opened in the afternoon of Tuesday 15 October and will close at 12 noon on Tuesday 26 November.

Please read the small grants application guidance document for help on completing your application:

You will also need the small grants proposed delivery schedule to complete your application:

Community chest grants

Community chest grants are available for local groups to deliver short term or one-off activities. Organisations can apply for up to £1,000 to deliver projects which contribute to the Hackney equality objective ‘To foster good relations by building a strong sense of community, neighbourliness and pride’.

Applications are now closed.

Advice grants

Our voluntary and community sector grants programme includes ring-fenced funding for advice services in the borough which are delivered by voluntary and community sector organisations.

Organisations could apply for a grant to provide an advice service that helps people solve their problems and regain independence by promptly giving them the right advice and support.

Applications are now closed. For more detail on our approach, please see the advice grant framework.
