The pan London membership scheme – Source London
If you drive an electric vehicle you don’t have to register with us directly to use the charging bays. If you’re a member of the Source London scheme and have a valid access tag and cable, you can use their charging points in accordance with the local parking controls.
At the moment they charge a flat fee membership but are expecting to eventually move to Pay-As-You-Go.
You can join with any vehicle that’s licensed with the DVLA as a pure electric or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle including motorbikes, cars, vans, trucks and scooters.
Become a member
Join the Source London scheme. You’ll need to pay the annual membership fee.
Standard parking fees apply for the one charging point in our controlled public car park (Britannia Leisure Centre). The rest are free.
In the long term we aim to charge for parking in all electric vehicle charging point bays during CPZ hours – this is to discourage local car journeys and to ensure a good ‘turnover’ in the bays. No charges are made for electricity used at the electric vehicle charging points.
Parking controls and time restrictions
All electric vehicle charging bays will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If parking charges are in place, controlled parking hours will apply. The maximum stay is currently 4 hours with no return within 2 hours however this could change depending on the location of the bay.
Hackney has three 50kw rapid electric vehicle chargers: Bentley Road in Dalston; Calvert Avenue in Shoreditch; and Reading Lane in Hackney Central. The location of the chargers can be found on the map above.
You’ll need a ChargePoint Services (CPS) access card to use the rapid chargers. Please visitCPS and complete the application form. The initial registration fee for the rapid charger is £20. After the first year, there’s an annual administration fee of £20. Maximum stay period applies.
Fees to use this chargepoint are:
- connection fee per charging session: £1.80 incl. VAT
- usage fee: £0.30p incl. VAT per kilowatt-hour (KWh)
Resident’s parking permit discount
If you’re a resident with an electric vehicle or you have a businesses in Hackney that owns electric vehicles, you can park for free in your own controlled parking zone areas, but you’ll still need to apply for a free parking permit. The permit’s free if you apply online, or £10 if you apply in person or by post. Apply or renew resident parking permit.
Benefits of electric vehicles
Electric vehicles help:
- reduce emissions compared with conventional internal combustion engined vehicles
- address concerns about energy security and dependency on imported oil
- combat climate change (if they’re powered by renewably sourced or green tariff electricity) by reducing CO2 emissions
- reduce engine and transmission noise – in particular when they replace stop-starting diesels and at night when ambient noise levels are lower
