We’re currently introducing a new design and are making sure everything works.
Learn about the fascinating stories of people who have moved to Hackney and made it their home, from Anglo-Saxon settlers to early Victorian villas and recent refugees.
Discover this diverse and changing history through fascinating interviews, objects and images, listen to personal stories of living, working and moving to Hackney or join in with events and activities and share what Hackney means to you.
Learning sessions and teachers’ packs
We offer an extensive learning programme of taught sessions for KS1, KS2 and SEN groups and online resources covering a range of curriculum-linked topics for KS1-KS4 learners.
Lots to see
Visiting as part of an organised group? Please call 020 8356 2509 to check availability and let us know you are coming.
We rely on the involvement of local people. You can donate objects or memories, participate in events and activities, develop your own exhibitions or partner with us on a project. Let us know if you have an idea.
Are you looking for volunteering experience in a museum? Do you have a passion for helping people learn about local history, community and diversity? Then Hackney Museum could be the place for you.
Projects and community partnerships
We run our own projects, working in partnership with local groups and individuals, but also contribute to the project work of other local organisations, museums and heritage organisations across London. Projects and community partnerships.
We hold over 8,000 objects and interviews about Hackney’s history and people. Most of these have been generously donated to the museum by members of the public.
Do you have an item to donate or a story to tell? Please use the form below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information:
- description of the item, including size
- a photograph
- any information you have about the item or its owners
We are particularly interested in collecting items relating to the diverse communities of the borough. We reserve the right to refuse a donation if it is not appropriate, and suggest alternative museum or organisation where possible, in line with our collecting policy.
